Last Minute Travel Yi-Taek Shim is President and Chief Executive Officer of Korean Air and conducts business out of the airlines headquarters in Seoul, Korea. Mr. Shim was named President and CEO on April 22, 1999. Prior to that, he served in a variety of capacities with Korean Air for almost 30 years. He was Executive Vice President of the Aerospace Division from 1991-1999 and spearheaded the growth of that division that has, for the past 23 years, manufactured military aircraft for the Korean and the U.S. military, in addition to aircraft parts for the Boeing Co. and Airbus Industrie Co. Before he became EVP of Korean Air Aerospace, Mr. Shim served as Aerospace s Senior Vice-President from 1988-1991. In addition to this post, he was Executive Vice-President of Hanjin Heavy Industries, a sister company to Korean Air, from 1989-1991. Mr. Shim has worked with Korean Air in various other departments including International Relations, Materials and Purchasing, Systems, Corporate Planning and Sales. His tenure with the company and exposure to all operations gives him solid footing to lead Korean Air into a new phase of operational excellence. Mr. Shim received a bachelors degree in engineering and a master s degree in Chemical Engineering at Seoul National University. He and his wife, Hyae-ryon, have three sons, Sang-beom, Sang-min and Sang-hoon. His hobbies include playing golf, listening to classical music and reading books.
