Gran Canaria:Getting There

Gran Canaria:Getting There

Author: Tom James
As foreign as going to a relatively obscure chain of Spanish islands off the coast of Africa may seem, for East Coast sailors, it's actually easier than going to Hawaii. Tickets from major East Coast cities will cost less than going to Hawaii. It's about a seven-hour flight to Madrid (from NYC), then another two to Gran Canaria. Iberia is the main carrier. Once you land, getting a car is easy. It's probably best to let one of the windsurfing shops set you up, but if you're on your own, one rental car agency, BetaCar, rents cars with racks and will pick you up at the airport. BetaCar Aeropuerto de Las Palmas (Gando): phone 011-34-92-857-4244.
